From a recipient:"When I get stronger, I would love to give a bag to someone for you! I love the blanket, socks, hat, water bottle, success stories, & book the most — the other information is great to have! The bag is the perfect size & very pretty! It was a very nice gift & a joy to receive!
And thanks for the thoughts & prayers — with help I will beat this! It's so nice not to be alone!"
Bag of Hope
The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance invites you to look at our Bag of Hope, one of GOCA's premiere community outreach programs. It's designed for all women, caregivers, and medical professionals to create greater awareness of ovarian and other gynecological cancers.
The Bag of Hope is given to newly-diagnosed patients, letting them know they are not alone on their journey. GOCA created this program in response to needs expressed by women diagnosed with gynecological cancer to have readily available, reliable information on cancer resources, treatment and support while providing comfort and hope.
Recipients receive a compilation of helpful cancer resources such as information on chemotherapy side effects, talking to your family and where to go for non-medical support. In addition to knowledge, the Bag of Hope also prepares cancer patients for the rigors of chemotherapy with information of possible side effects and how to strategically combat them.
Newly diagnosed women are provided with gifts to encourage comfort and a positive attitude towards fighting cancer that include:
- A GOCA hat
- Lightweight fleece blanket
- Pair of teal ribbon socks
- Writing journal
- GOCA water bottle
Our Bag of Hope also includes our ovarian cancer survivor DVD and a cancer survival toolbox to promote positive action towards overcoming cancer.
